Achieved sixth consecutive quarter of adjusted EPS growth, with Q2 2026 adjusted EPS at $5.56, up from $5.46 a year ago, and net income rising 111% year-over-year to $182.1 million.
After-sales and Customer Financial Services (CFS) drove half of profits, with after-sales gross profit hitting a record $607 million and CFS gross profit per unit up 3%.
AutoNation Finance profit rose sharply, with Q2 2026 income at $10.7 million, portfolio up over 50% year-to-date, and 91% debt-funded.
Capital deployment included $457 million in share repurchases (over 6% share reduction) and $317 million in M&A, acquiring four dealerships and adding $600 million in annual revenue.
Free cash flow rose 11% year-to-date, with $439 million generated in the first half and a 125% conversion rate.
Financial highlights
Q2 2026 total revenue was $6.93 billion, nearly flat year-over-year, with gross profit at $1.23 billion (17.8% of revenue), and operating income up 47% to $319 million.
Adjusted operating income for Q2 2026 was $343 million, down from $369 million a year ago.
Adjusted SG&A expense improved sequentially to 68.2% of gross profit, with a target of 66%-67% by year-end.
Weighted average shares outstanding declined 12% year-over-year due to buybacks.
Cash and cash equivalents at June 30, 2026, were $53.3 million, with $1.57 billion available under the credit facility.
Outlook and guidance
SG&A as a percentage of gross profit expected to reach 66%-67% run-rate by year-end.
After-sales business positioned for continued mid-single-digit growth in customer pay.
Expect adjusted EPS growth in the second half, supported by stable unit profitability and growth in CFS and after-sales.
CapEx for the full year on track for approximately $325 million.
Management expects continued normalization of credit loss rates in the finance portfolio as it seasons.
